The elementary media center has an important place in the total development of each student at DCA.
Students in kindergarten 4 through second grade come as a class weekly to check out books and have a storytime. Third grade through fifth graders are on a flexible schedule. This schedule allows students to come to library as they need materials. Classes in these grades come for special research and teaching at various time through the school year.
The Scholastic Book Fair is a yearly event in the fall which students really enjoy. DCA receives 30% in cash from the profits made during the event. All monies are used to purchase more books or AR test. AR is the accelerated reading program used by DCA to encourage students to read. Testing for comprehension is a main feature of the program. Students take a test on the book they have read and get immediate results of their score and how many points they have earned. Three times during the year the library staff conducts a store where points earned can be used to purchase items which are donated by our generous DCA parents.
