HOMEWORK POLICY

Why assign homework?

Homework is a valuable aid in helping students to make the most of their experience in school. Homework is given to reinforce what has been taught in class and prepare the student for upcoming lessons. Homework develops self-discipline, responsibility, and organizational skills.

When will homework be assigned?

Homework will be assigned on a daily basis. Little or no homework is given on Wednesday. Most homework will be the practice and/or review of skills, reading toward the AR goal, Bible memory work, studying for tests, and unfinished class work or projects. Adequate notice will be given for all tests. Spelling tests will occur weekly on Wednesday and Friday unless you are notified otherwise. Math tests usually occur on Friday. A child should not have to spend more then 1 to 1 ½ hours doing nightly homework.

What are the students’ responsibilities?

1. Write down all assignments that are placed on the homework board daily. Take home all materials needed to study for tests and complete assignments.
2. Prepare for all tests and complete all homework and projects on time.

If there is a legitimate reason why the student is unable to finish homework send me a note the day it is due. (Examples of acceptable excuses illness, or injury. Unacceptable excuses ball practice, ball games). Five (5) points will be deducted each day the assignment is late. Even though the student has a note he/she must still report to the detention/study hall room to work on the incomplete assignment. (See stipulation regarding no homework/no recess policy on the CLASS RULES SHEET)

ABSENTEE POLICY
If the student is absent for any reason it is important that work be made-up in a timely fashion. To insure this parents should take note of the following:

1. Call the elementary school office before 9:00 A.M. and let us know your child will need make-up work. The work will be in the office for pick-up AFTER 12:00.
2. The amount of time allowed to complete missed assignments and tests will be based on the number of days the child is out of school. (Ex: student is absent for 3 days, within three days after the student returns to school all make-up work should be in and all tests that were missed taken).
