DCA Technology, A Brief History

Student’s at DCA received their first exposure to computers during the 1985-1986 academic year. DCA had 24 Apple IIe computers in a classroom that were used by students as part of the learning experience. Throughout the next 10 years as Apple’s computer technology improved DCA would upgrade the computers and also create its first dedicated computer lab with 25 Apple computers. The 1997-1998 academic year brought about the addition of a 25 station PC Lab for grades 9-12. Over the years from 99-07 the commitment to technology at DCA brought about many upgrades. From network infrastructure to the addition of Wireless Access Points across campus DCA has made great strides to improve and stay on the leading edge of technology integration. The 2008-2009 academic year brings an exciting beginning of a fundamental change in the way we “do” education. The introduction of 6th-8th grade students carrying tablet PC’s throughout the school day and adding 9th–12th in 2009-2010 continues DCA’s tradition of academic excellence in an educational environment that is rigorous, challenging, and engaging students in the learning process using modern technology.
